We are proud to announce the creation of the Adath Israel Choir!
The new choir is open for enrollment for adults age 16 and above. If you have a love for singing and would like to be part of a special musical experience that will bless the community, this is a wonderful opportunity for you. Being part of our choir will not only be a source of musical self-expression, but also the beginning of new friendships and spiritual fulfillment... not to mention FUN!
Choir Overview
The Adath Israel Choir will be learning and performing music that will include traditional and contemporary Jewish music as well as universal, spiritual music that can be appreciated by members and guests from many backgrounds and faith traditions. We will be singing music in Hebrew and English as well as other languages. Our music will be diverse, inclusive and reflect a colorful range of culture and styles.
Music Director
The new choir will be directed by composer/arranger/vocalist Beth Styles. Beth lives and works in Sandy Hook where she produces music and sound design for TV, theater and singer/songwriters.
Beth grew up in a modern-orthodox Jewish home and was educated in Yeshiva. Throughout her career, she has been driven to write and create music that brings people together. Over the last several years Beth has worked with various Cantors, Synagogues and churches to produce inter-faith concert events that inspire the community. Incorporating many styles including Jazz, Jewish, Folk Rock, Gospel and more, Beth has written over 100 spiritual pieces. Her last CD entitled "Glory" made a splash with contemporary faith music . Beth also worked with our own Rabbi Praver in producing and co-writing his last CD "Sacred Space".
Requirements to Join
You don't have to be a "professional" to join the choir! We do ask that you be able to carry a tune.
The choir will be learning vocal parts by following along with sheet music. If you don't know how to read music - have no fear! You will be following along in no time :)
We ask that you attend weekly rehearsals and be on time.
Rehearsals
Choir rehearsal will take place once a week on Tuesday nights from 7-9. Our first rehearsal will begin on February, 2nd, 2010.
Suggested Donation
Since our Music Director is not being salaried to work with us at this time, we are asking that each choir member contribute towards compensation as he or she is able.
Suggested Donation : $10.00/per rehearsal.
